Ski Heavenly Valley, South Tahoe Area, – Few ski resorts can match the magnificent beauty of Heavenly Valley, thus its name. There are scenic views of the emerald colored Lake Tahoe on one side and the desert of Reno on the other side not to mention the scenic Sierra Mountains. Heavenly is the area’s largest ski area. The mountain averages 360 inches of annual snowfall covering 4800 acres of skiable acres with a 3500 foot vertical drop. You can ski across from California to Nevada. It is a skier and snowboarder heaven. There are 20% beginner, 45% intermediate runs, 30% black, and 5% expert. There are 28 lifts.
And, if you don’t care to get risky on the expect slopes, go to the casino nearby and rick a little money gambling. Or, take an Emerald Bay Cruise on Lake Tahoe’s Emerald Lake. Two hours with views of mountains and cascading waterfalls. Then, there is the glass gondola you can ride 2.4 miles up the mountain. You will see breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. You can hop off half way at observation deck for spectacular sights and photos. Heavenly also has many restaurants, a mall for shopping with an ice rink, and spa. All these activities are near the Gondola in the Village. Your hotel, Forest Suites Resort, where breakfast is included, is located under the lift in the village... Additionally, there are also four different ski areas in the region where you can use the same lift pass. They would require getting a shuttle or renting a car to reach. Shuttles can be arranged at the Marriott and price depends on numbers in van. Get your party together and go to one of these places.
Kirkwood – Atop Sierra Crest with some of driest lightest snow in the Tahoe region. 2300 acres of terrain from calm groomed beginner runs to hair raising blacks. There is something for everyone at the “Wood”, skiers and snowboarders. There are 13 lifts with 12% of runs beginner, 30% intermediate, 38% black, and 20% expert. Long groomed trail, expert areas, and chutes to ride.
Squaw Valley – Olympic Valley is one of largest ski areas in the US, hosted Olympics in 1960, second only in size to Heavenly Valley. Has 30 chair lifts... Alpine Meadows, another ski area has merged with Squaw and they have joint access. Squaw receives heavy snowfall, and 4000 acres of skiable area. Longest run 3.2 miles, 15% Beginner, 35% Intermediate, and 50 % Black
Northstar – Located near Northshore of Tahoe 3,000 acres of ski terrain. Impeccable grooming, incredible tree skiing and a variety of terrain suitable for any level, beginner to expert. Slopes are 16% beginner, 47% Intermediate, and 37% advanced (blacks), with 13 lifts. Longest run 1 mile. Also contains 9 world-class terrain parks and a 22 foot superpipe designed by Olympian Shaun White.
